Host refers to the animal which can get the disease.
The host (animal) has a variety of characteristics that may influence if disease will occur or not. Some diseases occur only in young animals while others only in older animals, for example. Pregnancy and abortion can only occur in females. The vaccination status of animal influences the risk of getting the disease.
