Correct diagnosis of disease in an individual animal often requires clinical skill and may require laboratory testing and/or pathology examination of post mortem material.

Most of the time you will start to create a list of differential diagnoses when talking to a farmer about his sick animals. As each of the four steps of the examination are conducted the differential diagnosis list should be reviewed and changed depending on new information or findings of any examination.
